In Madaripur Kalkini, due to the rise of monsoon water, the Ariyal Kha river again fell in the face of the strong current and about 10 homesteads and 1 km of crop land were lost in the river. As a result, more than half a hundred farming families on the banks of the river have become destitute. Many have lost their homes and have taken refuge in other areas. Apart from this, many people are afraid of losing their land. At any moment, their homes could be swallowed up in the river.
It has been reported that this year, like every year, the breaching of Arial Kha river has started again in Ward No. 8 of Sidikhan area of the upazila. 10 homesteads including Faizar Ali, Humayan, Nuru, Didar in this area have already been lost in the river. Apart from this, 10 families including Mohabbat Hossain, Raihan and Naju Hossain are in danger of collapse. Families fearing the collapse have taken shelter in the neighboring Koaria area with their cows, goats, poultry.
Many people who lost their homes due to river erosion are living with their families on a half-assed basis. Various crops including plants, paddy, jute have been lost in the river in 1 kilometer of this area. On the other hand, about 15 families in the Sahebrampur area of the upazila are in fear of the Arial Kha river breaking. Meanwhile, the boro paddy fields planted by many farmers in the area have been lost due to river erosion. The farmers of this area wake up in the middle of the night to see their crops being taken to the river.
Due to the destruction of Siddikhan area, several people including Taher said that the Ariyal Khan river has taken away everything from us. In an instant all our dreams are disappearing.
Several affected farmers of Sahebrampur area including Mannan and Rana said with anger that this rainy season really increases our worries. Year after year our land is getting lost in Ariyal Kha river. But we have no one to look at. Hundreds of families like us have left the area due to the river's erosion. But nobody cares. Sahebrampur UP Chairman Murad Sardar said that the Arial Kha river has been breaking for years. We have stood by them many times. They will be supported in the future.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Uttam Jumar Das said that they will be supported by the government. Measures will be taken to prevent breakage.
