The results of the 2024 Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations have been published, with a total pass rate of 77.78 percent.

The general education boards recorded a 75.56 percent pass rate, while the madrasah and technical boards saw significantly higher success rates of 93.40 percent and 88.09 percent, respectively.

The results were officially announced at 11am yesterday and were made available on the respective boards' websites and at educational institutions simultaneously.

This year, a total of 1,331,058 students participated in the HSC and equivalent exams. Among them, 666,013 were boys and 531,714 girls. The pass rate for boys was 75.61 percent and for girls it was 79.95 percent.

This year, 145,911 students achieved GPA-5, of them, 64,978 were boys and 80,933 girls. In 2023, the average pass rate across 11 boards was 78.64 percent, with 92,365 students achieving GPA-5.

Among the nine general boards, this year Rajshahi recorded a pass rate of 81.24 percent, Barishal 81.85 percent, Sylhet 85.39 percent, Dhaka 79.21 percent, Dinajpur 77.56 percent, Cumilla 71.15 percent, Chattogram 70.32 percent, Jashore 64.29 percent, and Mymensingh recorded the lowest 63.22 percent.

 

 

Pass rate highest in Madrasah Board, lowest in Mymensingh

Madrasah Board attained the highest pass rate among eleven education boards in the results of the HSC examination yesterday.

In terms of pass rates of nine general education boards, Sylhet ranked first with 85.39 percent, while Mymensingh ranked the lowest with 63.22 percent.

The overall pass rates in other general education boards of the country are 79.21 percent in Dhaka, 81.85 percent in Barishal, 70.32 percent in Chattogram, 71.15 in Cumilla, 77.56 percent in Dinajpur, 81.24 percent in Rajshahi and 64.29 percent in Jashore board.

The pass rate is 88.09 percent under the technical education board.

The results have been published by the chairmen of the relevant education boards around 11:00 am yesterday.

This year, overall 77.78 percent of the examinees passed the exam and a total of 145,911 students got GPA 5.00 while the number was 92,365 in the previous year.

A total of 14,50,790 students from nine general education boards, madrasah board and technical board were expected to sit for the exams from 9,463 educational institutions at 2,275 centers across the country.

In 65 educational institutions across the country, no students passed the HSC and equivalent examinations this year, according to the results published yesterday.

On the other hand, 100 percent pass rate this year in 388 institutions.

The total number of students who appeared for the HSC exams this year was 13,31,058. Of them, 10,35,309 passed the exams.

 

'Bad' results in 4 education boards for failing more in English

The average pass rate in HSC and equivalent examinations in 11 education boards is 77.78 percent. This year, Mymensingh and Jashore Education Board have lagged behind in the results including pass rate. Chattogram and Cumilla education boards also had poor results. The main reason for the poor results in the four education boards is the failure of English and Information Technology (ICT).

Analysis of the results shows that 6 subject examinations were held in 9 general education boards. They are Bangla, English, ICT, Physics, Logic and Accounting. Among the examinations held, the pass rate in English in Mymensingh Education Board is 77.11 percent. That is, about 23 out of every 100 people failed in English.

Moreover, the failure rate in ICT is also high in the board. 73.71 percent passed in ICT. A total of 26.29 percent of the examinees failed. Moreover, the pass rate in accounting is low in Mymensingh Board. Only 71.39 percent of the students could pass in accounting. The remaining 28.61 percent students failed.

The pass rate of Mymensingh Board is good in the remaining four subjects held. In the board, 95.37 percent students passed in Bengali, 90.48 percent in physics and 94.84 percent in logic.

In Jashore Board, 31.24 percent of the examinees failed only in English. Only 68 out of every 100 students passed the English test. However, the examinees of Jashore Board have done well in the remaining 5 subjects.

In this board, 94.97 percent passed in Bangla. 87.84 percent students passed in ICT, 89.65 percent in physics, 98.35 percent in logic and 86.87 percent in accounting.

Chattogram and Cumilla education boards have also suffered results in English. The pass rate in English in Chattogram is only 69 percent. For every 100 students, 31 percent failed in English which has also affected the average pass rate of the board. In this board, 70.32 percent of the students passed.

 

Girls ahead in GPA-5 and pass rate for 4 years

Like the last three years, female students have achieved remarkable results. This year, they are ahead of boys in GPA-5 and pass rate in HSC and equivalent examinations. This figure has been seen by reviewing the results of the last three years and this year.

According to the results of HSC and equivalent examinations, this year 4.34 percent more students passed than male students and 15,955 more students got GPA-5.

This year, there were 13 lakh 31 thousand 58 candidates in 2,695 centers of 11 education boards. There 10 lakh 35 thousand 309 students have passed. Among them, 5 lakh 3 thousand 595 are boys and 5 lakh 31 thousand 714 are girls.

Besides, 1 lakh 45 thousand 911 students got GPA-5 in 11 education boards. Of these, 80,933 are girls and 64,978 are boys.

Last year, the average pass rate in 11 boards was 78.64 percent.  92 thousand 365 students got GPA-5. According to the Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, female students are ahead of boys in getting pass rate and GPA-5 since 2020.

 

65 institutions see zero pass rates in HSC exams

No student from 65 institutions passed the HSC examination and its equivalent examinations this year.

This marks a significant increase from last year when 42 institutions witnessed zero pass rates.

The results of the HSC and equivalent exams were published on Tuesday with a pass rate of 77.78 percent.
