Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) yesterday called for the complete cancellation of appointments made based on the final results of the 43rd Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) examination, which was conducted under the Awami League government, to ensure fairness for job seekers.
The party further demanded the cancellation of all proceedings related to the 44th, 45th, and 46th BCS exams, urging that a fair and transparent process be implemented to appoint meritorious and deserving candidates.
"We demand that the interim government immediately revoke the gazette notification on the appointments made based on the 43rd BCS examinations results, which were conducted by a partisan commission during the fascist regime of the Awami League," said BNP standing committee member Salahuddin Ahmed.
Speaking at a press conference at the BNP Chairperson's Gulshan office, he said there is a precedent for annulling BCS recruitment, referencing the interim government's actions in 2007 when it scrapped the appointments based on the results of the 27th BCS.
He pointed out that the final results of the 27th BCS were revoked in the same context, and the then government subsequently completed the process of issuing the recruitment circular after retaking viva exams.
The BNP leader emphasised that the government could follow the example set by the 27th BCS appointment process regarding the 43rd BCS.
He said that just two months after the mass uprising, the opportunity to strengthen Awami League loyalists' control in the administration by appointing ousted party supporters without proper scrutiny has raised serious concerns.
"We feel that this appointment is tantamount to deception and betrayal of the unforgettable sacrifices of the students in the anti-fascist movement," Salahuddin said.
"On behalf of the country and the nation, we strongly demand the interim government to cancel the 43rd BCS which was considered and recommended on party basis, depriving thousands of eligible and talented candidates," he said.
According to the sources, the viva examination of the 44th BCS was postponed during the anti-discrimination movement. Later, the written examination of the 46th BCS was also postponed. On September 14, the departmental examinations of cadre and non-cadre officers were also postponed. And the results of the written examination of the 45th BCS have been stuck for a long time.
Meanwhile, 10 thousand 638 candidates have passed the 46th BCS preliminary examination. All these candidates will participate in the written test. There are 3,140 cadres to be appointed through the BCS. Besides, 1,710 officers will be taken to different cadres in the 44th BCS. Through the 45th BCS, 2,309 officers and 1,022 non-cadre people will be taken. Of the 3 lakh 58 thousand 125 vacant posts in government jobs, 43 thousand 336 first class posts and 40 thousand 561 second class posts. The rest are third and fourth grade. The PSC recommends the appointment of first and second class posts.

According to sources, NTRCA is looking for vacancies after three years of recruitment. Private educational institutions (schools, colleges, madrasah and technical) are seeking information through online e-registration. There are more than 50,000 vacancies in these institutions. NTRCA has been hanging these job seekers for several years.
Meanwhile, expressing anger, job seekers said that they have to prepare for government jobs by working day and night. Although many posts are vacant, the test is not being taken. They are in extreme depression as age is not stopping.
On the other hand, the PSC chairman recently resigned along with the entire commission. Earlier, job seekers blocked the PSC and protested.
