Four dists of north inundates severely

-Surma and Kushiara rivers may increase in next 2 days

- Heavy rainfall likely to occur over Mymensingh division’s river, Rajshahi, Rangpur, Feni, Ctg, and Dhaka’s rivers.

 

Inside country and adjoining states of India, heavy rains have flooded the localities in Bogai, Kansa, Jinjiram, Someshwari. In this, flood situation has appeared in the lower areas of all the districts in Mymensingh division, which is spreading with the passage of time.

The Flood Forecasting and Warning Center of the Water Development Board (BWDB) reported this information yesterday.

Sardar Uday Raihan, executive engineer of BWDB, said that the water levels of the Kangs, Someshwari, Jinjiram and Old Brahmaputra rivers in Mymensingh division are increasing. On the other hand, the water level of Bhogai river is decreasing. At present, Bhogai river in Sherpur district is flowing above the danger line at Nakuagaon and Jinjiram river in Jamalpur district at Goalkanda point.

According to information from all meteorological agencies, heavy rainfall (44-88 mm/24 hours) is likely to occur over Mymensingh division and adjoining uplands for the next 24 hours. In view of this, the water level of Bhogai-Kangsa, Jinjiram and Someshwari rivers may rise at a slow pace for the next 24 hours. In view of this, the flood situation in Sherpur, Jamalpur, and Mymensingh districts along the banks of Bhugai-Kangs and Jinjiram rivers may remain stable for the next 24 hours and some low-lying areas may be inundated after crossing the danger level of Kangs river in Netrakona district. In the next 2 days, the water level of the rivers may decrease and flow below the danger level and the flood situation in the lower areas of the districts may return to normal.

The water level of Surma and Kushiara rivers in Sylhet division is rising and flowing below the danger level. According to the information of meteorological agencies, heavy rainfall (44-88 mm/24 hours) is expected in Sylhet division and adjacent upstream for the next 24 hours, in view of which the water level of Surma and Kushiara rivers may increase in the next two days, but may flow below the danger level. Next day Surma and Kushiara water levels in rivers may remain stable.

 

Other major rivers of Sylhet division – Sarigoin and Jadukata rivers are increasing in water level, while Manu, Khoai and Dhalai rivers are decreasing in water level and flowing below the danger level. Heavy rainfall (44-88 mm/24 hours) is likely over Sylhet division and adjacent uplands during the next 24 hours. In view of this, the water level of all these rivers in Sylhet division may increase for the next 24 hours, stabilize the next day and decrease the next day, but may flow below the danger level.

The water level of Gomti, Sangu, Muhuri, Halda, Feni and Matamuhuri rivers of Chittagong division is decreasing and flowing below the flood limit. According to the information of meteorological agencies, there is a trend of heavy rainfall (44-88 mm/24 hours) in Chittagong division and adjacent upstream for the next 2 days, in view of which the water level of all these rivers of Chittagong division may increase, but may flow below the danger level. The water level of all these rivers may decrease in the next day.

According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, a low pressure is prevailing over Bangladesh and adjoining Northwest Bay of Bengal. In view of this, higher than normal tides and heavy rainfall (44-88 m/24 hours) may be observed at some places in the coastal rivers of Barisal and Khulna divisions for the next 3 days.

The water level of the Brahmaputra river and its downstream Jamuna river in Rangpur division is rising and flowing below the danger level. The water level in the rivers may rise for the next 5 days, but may flow below the danger level. The water level of river Ganga and its downstream Padma in Rajshahi division is rising and flowing below the danger level. The water level of Ganga-Padma river may increase slowly for next 24 hours, then stable for next 2 days and decrease for next 2 days, but may flow below danger level.

The waters of Teesta, Dharla and Dudhkumar rivers in Rangpur division are stable and flowing below the flood line. The water level of River Teesta may increase slowly till next 24 hours and may stabilize next day and decrease next day, but may flow below danger level.

On the other hand, the water level of Dharla and Dudhkumar rivers may remain stable in the next 24 hours and may decrease slowly in the next two days, but during this time the rivers may flow below the danger level.

Rajshahi, Rangpur division and adjacent upstream, according to the information of meteorological agencies, there is a trend of heavy rainfall (44-88 mm/24 hours) for the next two days, in view of which other major rivers of Rajshahi, Rangpur division - Upper Atrai, Upper Karatoa, Punarbha, The water level of Ghaghat, Ichamati-Jamuna, Tangan and Samuneshwari rivers may rise, but may flow below the danger level. The water level of the rivers may decrease in the next 1 day.

The water level of Dhaka district and its nearby major rivers - Buriganga, Tongi Khal, Turag and Balu rivers is increasing. According to meteorological agencies, heavy rainfall (44-88 mm/24 hours) is expected in Dhaka division for the next two days. In view of this, the water level of these rivers may increase for the next 3 days, but may flow below the danger level.
