Before August 5, during the movement to topple the government, the prices of several commodities increased. The prices of rice, potatoes, onion including Hilsa fish are on the rise.

Lower and lower middle class people are in great trouble with the high prices of commodity. They said that the new government is taking initiatives to reduce the prices of other commodities, it is also necessary in the case of rice. They are struggling to buy rice in the market.

It was found from the market that coarse rice is being sold at Tk 55 to Tk 56 per kg as in the previous few weeks. Meanwhile, most of the stores do not have coarse varieties of rice. Due to which many buyers are forced to buy medium quality rice.

Meanwhile, medium rice BR-28 and Pajam are being sold at Tk 60 per kg. A month and a half ago, coarse rice was Tk 50 to Tk 52 and medium rice was Tk 55 to Tk 60. And thin rice was sold at Tk 65 to 76 per kg. That is, the price of rice has increased from Tk 4 to 6 per kg in the last one month.

Last Thursday, the government reduced the duty of onion and potato. However, the price of these products did not have any impact in one day. In fact, it takes some time to take effect. In this situation, like last week, potatoes are being sold at Tk 55 to Tk 60 per kg. Apart from this, domestic onion was seen to be sold at Tk 110 to Tk 120 per kg.

On the other hand, broiler chicken prices have remained stable for several consecutive weeks. Now a kg of broiler is selling at Tk 160 to 175. Besides, sonali chicken is being sold at Tk 240 to Tk 260 per kg. Apart from this, like last week, a dozen of eggs are being sold at Tk 150 to Tk 160.

However, the price of beef has decreased slightly. Beef is being sold at Tk 730 to Tk 750 per kg. Even a couple of weeks ago beef was Tk 750 to 800 per kg.

Halim Chowdhury, a meat trader in Rampura market, said that the sale of meat was very low due to high prices. Due to which many traders have reduced the price slightly.

Buyers are getting some relief in the vegetable market. Since the fall of the government, the prices of most vegetables are within the reach of the consumer. Now potol is being sold at Tk 40 to 45 per kg. Even a month ago potol was Tk 80 to 90 per kg. Prices of most vegetables like potol have come down by almost half. A kg of brinjal and bitter gourd costing Tk 150 a month ago is now being bought at Tk 60 to Tk 80.

In the middle of the season, the supply of hilsa in the market has also increased. But the price did not fall as expected. It has been seen that hilsa weighing a little more than one kg is being sold at Tk 1500 to Tk 1550. The buyer has to pay Tk 1200 to 1300 to buy a kg of hilsa weighing about 900 grams. And hilsa weighing 700 to 800 grams is being bought for Tk 900 to 1100. A kg of small hilsa is Tk 600.
