Shahjahan works illegally

Dr Shahjahan Mahmood, the running chairman of the Bangladesh Satellite Company Limited, reduced his age illegally to join the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regularity Commission (BTRC) in 2015.

To get this appointment, Shahjahan Mahmood changed to fraud with his name, age, father's name, and address. Shahjahan's date of birth was 03/01/1948 as per the metric certificate, making him 67 years old in 2015. As per the BTRC Act, the maximum age limit for appointment to the post of Chairman is 65 years, so he is not eligible to be appointed to the post. But Shahjahan changed his date of birth to 12 May 1953. Not only the date of birth, but also he changed his name. From Shahjahan to Shahjahan Mahmood, father's name – Yasin Ali, from deceased Munshi Md. Yasin, Address- From Multali Rangpur to House-15, Road-5, Sector-7 Uttara Dhaka 1231. The reason is that no one can find him as he is also a US citizen. He applied for dual nationality application to the consulate general of Bangladesh, New York, the application number is 4354, receipt no 1585993.

Shahjahan Mahmood's date of birth is 03/01/1948, as recorded in his matriculation certificate. He graduated from BUET in 1969. If born in 1953, it is not possible to graduate from BUET in 1969, at the age of 16. He was born in 1948, matriculated in 1963 from Rangpur Zilla School, and Intermediate in 1965 from Carmichael College.

The reunion of the 1969 batch in BUET was held in 2007. Shahjahan's registered number was 65284, in which he wrote the date of birth as 03/01/1948, and admission year 1965.

So it appears that Shahjahan Mahmood's appointment is illegal as per the BTRC Act. The appointment he obtained by false pretenses is not only illegal but a criminal offense, and all his activities for the last nine years are voidable, his salary and allowances are all recoverable under the Public Demand Recovery (PDR) Act 1913. He could be sentenced to 7 to 14 years or more if convicted of this serious crime.

After BTRC, he joined Bangladesh Satellite Company Limited (BSCL) on 12 July 2018. After finishing the 3-year contract period, he rejoined here again. As per the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regularity Commission (BTRC) law, he also violated the re-appointment act because he already joined here 3 times.

Dr Shahjahan Mahmood alias Md Shahjahan confirmed to the Daily Post that he would not continue the post, but the ministry has not yet confirmed the information.
