BWJA gets new body

Syeda Hosne Ara Begum, senior district judge, and Farjana Yesmin, additional metropolitan sessions judge of Dhaka, have been elected president and general secretary of the Bangladesh Women Judges Association (BWJA).

According to a press release, the decision to form a new 35-member committee was made at the 34th Annual Conference of the Bangladesh Women Judges Association, held on Friday at the Judicial Administration Training Institute (JATI) in the capital.

Former justice Nazmun Ara Sultana of the Appellate Division was the chief guest.

Retired Appellate Division justices Zinat Ara, Krishna Debnath, and High Court Justice Farah Mahbub were present as special guests.

Runa Nahid Akhter, Sharmin Nigar, Shamima Afroz, Jasmine Ara Begum, and Shahnaz Sultana were elected as vice presidents in that committee.

Umme Saraban Tahura, Farah Mamun , and Afsana Abedin were elected as joint secretary general.

The other members were elected as Treasurer, Naureen Akhter Kankan, Literature and Culture secretary, Nusrat Jabin Nimmi, Associate Literature and Culture secretary, Mehera Mahbub, Social Welfare secretary, Sonia Ahmed, Publicity and Office secretary,  Arifa Chowdhury Himel.

District Judge, Samsun Nahar, Maqsuda Parveen, Sharmin Jahan, Farhana Ferdous

Additional District Judges Abeda Sultana, Rehana Akhter, Mosammat Monira Sultana, Nazmun Nahar Sumi, Joint District Judge Masuda Yasmin, Mahmuda Akhter, Tamanna Farah, Poli Afroz, and Nahid Sultana, Senior Assistant Judge / Assistant Judge Nusrat Jahan, Catherine Gomez, Mehnaz Afroz, Ishrat Jahan, Mohana Alamgir, Retired District Judge Jayashree Samaddar, and Umme Kulsoom were elected as executive members.

In addition, members of the BWJA from different districts of the country joined the conference.
