A chicken shed has been gutted by fire at the Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute (BLRI) in Savar. In this incident, about 370 common native chickens kept in that tin shed for research died due to burns.
A fire broke out in the eastern shed of BLRI on Sunday morning. Poultry production research department head Dr. Shakila Farooq said that the fire started from short circuit.
He said, 370 common domestic breed chickens are kept with 4-day-old chicks for nutritional research under the core research project in that shed. Senior Scientific Officer Dr. Halima was conducting the research program. Suddenly, around 8:30 am, the fire broke out from a short circuit. The workers put out the fire before calling the fire service. But I heard from the workers that everything gets burnt within 5 minutes. An inquiry committee is being constituted in this regard.
