Chuadanga National Directorate of Consumer Rights Protection has conducted raids in Barabazar area, a suburb of Sadar Upazila of the district. 4 organizations have been fined Tk 6 thousand 500 for various crimes in the operation. Sajal Ahmed, assistant director of Chuadanga office of the National Consumer Protection Directorate, conducted the campaign yesterday from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. At this time, he said, Mr Madhusudan Sadhu Kha, the owner of the establishment, was fined Tk 3 thousand under Sections 38 and 43 of the Consumer Rights Protection Act 2009 for the crime of not displaying the price list of daily necessities in an organization called Barabazar M/s. Another shop of the same owner, M/s Mukti Store (owner Sri Mukti Sadhu Kha) was fined Tk 1,000 under Section 38 for not displaying the price list of the products properly.
On the other hand, Mr Faruk Hossain, the owner of Md Ridwan Fish in the fish market, was fined Tk 2,000 under Section 38 for not displaying the price list of fish despite being warned many times. Also, in the chicken market, Mr Khalek, the owner of the chicken house, fined for not collecting vouchers for buying chicken despite being warned many times. A cautionary fine of Tk 500 is imposed for the offense of non-preserving and selling chicken at extra profit.
He also said that some other establishments including grocery stores, fish and meat markets, chicken markets, and vegetable and onion markets were monitored during the operation. All traders are cautioned and asked to buy and sell goods at fair prices, preserve vouchers and display price lists. At this time, awareness leaflets were distributed among the traders through the market committee.
Upazila Livestock Officer Md Mustafizur Rahman, Agricultural Marketing Office Officer Mr. Md Sahidul Islam, Mushfiqur Rahim and Md Fahim Uddin Mobin, leaders of the market committee and a team of Chuadanga District Police were present along with student representatives.
