5 thousand of women die of cervical cancer every year

Every year in Bangladesh at least 5000 women die of cervical cancer. Cervical cancer is the second leading cause of death among women in the country.

In this reality, the vaccination program is starting from October 24 in Sylhet to prevent cervical cancer. A month-long program in collaboration with UNICEF has set a target of immunizing 24,000 girl children in the Sylhet region.

The officials of UNICEF and National Media Institute gave this information in a discussion meeting organized in the conference room of Sylhet District Commissioner yesterday.

Speakers said, 5th to 9th class students and girls aged 10 to 14 years outside school will be given this vaccination. The vaccine is offered free of charge through the VaxEpi app or online registration. In addition to educational institutions, various health centers and government hospitals from different wards, districts and union levels of the city will also be running vaccination programs during this time.
