AL president nabbed over student attack

Police arrested Golam Mahbub Rabbani, former president of Goalanda municipality unit of Awami League (AL) and vice-chairman of Rajbari upazila unit, in a case filed over the attack on students of anti-discrimination student movement in Rajbari.

He is the son of Rustam Ali of Ward No. 6 of Goalanda municipality. He was sent to court yesterday. Earlier, police arrested him on Saturday.

On September 2, Jisan Khan, coordinator of the anti-discrimination student movement, filed a case with Rajbari Sadar Police Station against 14 people, including Golam Mahbub Rabbani, and 50 to 60 unidentified people. Golam Mahbub Rabbani was arrested as an unidentified accused in the case.

Khankhanapur Sub-Inspector Kamruzzaman Sikder said Golam Mahbub Rabbani, an unidentified accused in the case, was arrested from Goalanda Mor area at night and was handed over to Rajbari court yesterday.
