Trishal municipality of Mymensingh, has arrears of Tk 70 lakh in electricity bills in the last two years. Last Monday, the electricity office gave a notice to pay the electricity bill within a week. However, due to the public holiday on the occasion of the big day, the notice was received by the municipal authorities last Tuesday.
In this regard, the acting mayor of Trishal municipality Manik Saiful said, I got the responsibility of acting mayor a few days ago.This 70 lakhs is an outstanding bill from a few years ago. Electricity office issued notice for payment of dues. The matter was discussed with the municipal officials. We will arrange payment of the bill as soon as possible.
Rubel Ahmed, Engineer of Trishal Electricity Sales and Distribution Department said, the outstanding electricity bill in the municipality is long ago. There was a discussion about the payment of this bill with the former mayor. He said that he will pay the outstanding electricity bill in installments. Also he will pay the electricity bill every month. The municipality has not been paying any electricity bills for the past three months. Bill payment notice was given, failure to pay will result in our disconnection. The current Acting Mayor is assuring that the bill will be paid soon.
