A photo of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) leader and former state minister for communications Salahuddin Ahmed has been hung at the office of newly elected Pekua Upazila Parishad chairman Shafayet Aziz Raju in Cox's Bazar.
During a visit to the Pekua Upazila Parishad chairman's office yesterday, the photo of BNP central leader was seen hanging under the left side of the chairman's sitting table. BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's photo has also been attached to Salahuddin's photo. The chairman hung his picture on the right.
Pekua Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Saiful Islam said instructions have been given to remove the photo of the BNP leader from the Upazila Parishad chairman's office. It is illegal to hang a photograph of an unlawful person in a government office.
Pekua Upazila Parishad Chairman Shafayet Aziz Raju said, "Salahuddin Ahmed is the founder of Pekua upazila. There is no prohibition on hanging pictures of individuals. His picture has been hung from a place of respect."
