Brick looting of gov roads, case not filed yet

A HBB (brick) road constructed by the local government department of Nazir Biswas village of Decrechar Union in Sadar Upazila of Faridpur was blocked by the local people while carrying away the bricks.

After the bricks were blocked last Saturday afternoon, the police seized them after reporting to the police. Meanwhile, two days passed after this incident, but the case was not filed until 4:30 yesterday afternoon. Officer-in-charge of Kotyali police station Md Asaduzzaman said that after receiving information, the bricks were kept in the custody of a local person. He said that the road belongs to the local government department, so the officials concerned have been asked to file a complaint but they have not filed any complaint so far.

Locals claim that the gangs of the influential people of the river port area are involved in the brick looting, so they believe that the officials of the administration can avoid the crime. However, Faridpur Sadar Upazila Engineer Debashish Bakshi said that the road was inspected at Durur on Monday.

He said, a decision will be taken after discussing the matter with the higher authorities. Faridpur Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Tamanna Tasnim said that after learning about the matter, the Upazila Engineer was informed and instructed to take legal action.

It is to be noted that HBB (brick) road was constructed from Gorasthan Mosque of Dangi Char to Paldangi by Nazir Biswas a few years ago to ease the life of the people of Durgham Padma Char. Bricks were being removed from there for a few days. Last Saturday around noon, when the bricks were picked up and taken to the trawler, it came to the attention of the local residents and they blocked the bricks of the trawler and informed the police. After receiving the information, a police team went to the spot in the afternoon and found the truth.
