A bridge built at Bagbari on Bhabki-Raiganj road in Melandaha upazila of Jamalpur has been broken for the last four months. The middle part of the bridge, including the railing, has wrecked into holes. As a result, hundreds of vehicles and people of the upazila are moving on the bridge taking risk.
It was known that the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) constructed a 20-feet long bridge at Bagbari area of Ghosherpara union on Jamalpur-Bhabki-Raiganj road about 30 years ago. Various types of vehicles including trucks, pickups, auto-rickshaws, CNG, motorcycles use the bridge every day. But for the last four months, trucks and large vehicles have not been able to move due to broken potholes in some places of the bridge. Small vehicles are moving on the bridge with risk.
Locals said that the middle part of the bridge has broken and become a hole as it is very old. The bridge could collapse at any time which can leads major accidents any time.
Upazila LGED Executive Engineer Shubhashish Roy said the bridge will have to be reconstructed. That's why the project has been created and sent. Work will be started soon through tender as soon as the allocation is received.
