Burimari Express train runs experimentally

Putting an end to all speculations, the Burimari Express train was run experimentally. Inter-city Burimari Express left Lalmonirhat railway station for Gaibandha on a trial basis last Wednesday afternoon. Earlier on November 19, three coaches for the Burimari Express train arrived at Lalmonirhat station. Lalmonirhat will go one step further when the train starts.

Locals said that there was no inter-city train in direct connection Indian border district Lalmonirhat between Dhaka. During the previous BNP-Jamaat coalition government, the people of the district got an intercity train called Lalmoni Express. Which leaves Lalmonirhat station at 10:40 am with only one rake (engine) and reaches Dhaka at midnight. Lalmonirhat returns again on the same rake. As a result, Lalmonirhat was deprived of night intercity train facilities.

The district headquarters is in one corner of the district which is about 100 kilometers long. As a result, the people of the city got the benefit of the Lalmoni Express, but the remaining four upazilas and Burimari land port, as well as passengers with passports bound for India, were deprived. Moreover, there were intercity trains during the day but no intercity trains at night. Due to this, the district residents have been demanding an intercity train from Burimari station in bordering upazila Patgram for a long time. It will facilitate the passage of passengers with passports to India and business of Burimari land port. In view of the demands of the people of the district, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina promised to start an intercity train from Burimari to Dhaka in a public meeting during her visit to Lalmonirhat on October 19, 2011.

Lalmonirhat Railway Assistant Commercial Officer-1 Jahangir Alam said that the Burimari Express train has been running on a trial basis under the guidance of the higher authorities until the necessary coaches and engines have arrived. Although the opening date is not finalised, the train will start its journey very soon.
