The Railway Department inaugurated the Burimari Express train on March 12 this year to travel from Burimari to Dhaka safely and at a low cost. But although the train is called Burimari Express, it is not traveling from Burimari station to Dhaka but is traveling from Lalmonirhat. As a result, passengers from 4 upazilas including Burimari are suffering because they are unable to go directly to Dhaka.
The locals demand that the inter-city express train should immediately start from Burimari. An inter-city train named Burimari Express was launched in March this year to travel to Dhaka safely and at a low cost for the people of 5 upazilas including Patgram, Hatibandha, Tushbhandar, Aditmari of Lalmonirhat. But the train does not leave Burimari for Dhaka and is regularly running from Lalmonirhat at 9 pm. As a result, Dhaka-bound passengers have to travel by other means of transport to Lalmonirhat, which is 105 kilometers away from Burimari. Although there is a shuttle train as a connection, it is inconvenient and irregular due to the long distance of 100 kilometers.
Abdur Razzak and Safiyar Rahman, passengers traveling from Burimari to Dhaka, said, "We travel to Dhaka regularly for various purposes, including business work. But going by bus costs a lot. And the roads are also full of potholes. However, if the Burimari Express train runs from Burimari station, our travel expenses will be reduced and the suffering will be reduced."
Even if you return from Dhaka, you have to get off at Lalmonirhat. Therefore, if the train runs directly from Burimari, passport-holding passengers from India, Bhutan and Nepal who travel through the Burimari land port will be able to travel easily and safely on this route.
Meanwhile, the locals have submitted a memorandum to the railway authorities and the interim government demanding that the train run directly from Burimari.
Comrades Shawkat Hossain Ahmed and Faruk Hossain, coordinators of the Burimari to Dhaka Intercity Train Implementation Movement Council, said that a memorandum has been submitted to the Chief Advisor and the railway authorities for the train to run directly from Burimari to Dhaka. If the train does not start running from Burimari immediately, a movement will be launched.
Lalmonirhat Railway Division Senior Deputy Assistant Engineer Abdul Mannan said that due to coach shortage, lack of water supply system and lack of accommodation and warehouse for drivers, directors and other employees, the train cannot operate from Burimari Railway Station. However, a letter has been sent to the railway authorities in this regard.
The district residents are demanding that the intercity express train should run directly from Burimari to Dhaka, which is 510 kilometers away.
