Contractor left job unfinished

In Chilmari of Kurigram, the work of Bir Nibas was not completed even in 2 years. The contractor has not completed any of the work.

Abdul Khalek, a freedom fighter from Raniganj Union's Fakir Hat area, is suffering greatly by getting a heroic residence for freedom fighters. He expressed apprehension whether the bed-ridden freedom fighter would be able to breathe his last in this room.

Like Abdul Khalek, Kisamat Banu of Thanahat Union, brave freedom fighter Ansar Ali, brave freedom fighter Riyazul Haque Sardar of Raniganj Union, brave freedom fighter Aminul Islam of Madanmohan area and Saher Banu Begum, wife of martyred brave freedom fighter of Bhatia Para, are in dire straits.

Brave freedom fighter Ansar Ali said that no work was done even after visiting various offices. UNO and PIO only gave assurances. Unable to find a way, the doors and windows of the house have to be fenced with tin.

It is known that for the socio-economic development of poor freedom fighters and their families, the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs allocated 35 Bir Nibas in the second phase in Chilmari Upazila on 13 August 2022. Upazila Administration and Relief and Rehabilitation Office are working on implementation. This one-storey 732 sq. ft. Bir Nibas house has two bedrooms, a drawing room, a dining room, a kitchen, a spacious balcony and two bathrooms. But out of the 35 Veer Nibas of the second phase, 30 have been completed, but the work of the remaining five has not been completed even after two years. The contractor left the job after doing 70 percent of one, 80 percent of the other. Contractor Nuruzzaman Azad Zaman worked on 5 houses. He is Chilmari Upazila Jubo League leader and former Upazila Parishad Vice Chairman.

It has been seen on the ground that the doors and windows of the under-construction Bir Nibas have not been installed. Color is not done without electric connection.

The victimized freedom fighters complained that the contractor had withdrawn the money for 3 installments of the bill without completing the work. Upazila Muktijodha Sangsad's former deputy commander Bir Muktijodha Mozaffar Rahman said, 'The matter is very sad. The freedom fighters have also been humiliated by not completing the work on time.

When Nuruzzaman Azad Zaman, the owner of the contracting company was contacted, his phone was switched off.

Upazila Project Implementation Officer Md Mosharof Hossain said that the contractor has already been mourned. Further necessary action will be taken in this regard.
