The CCR project, a non-governmental organization, Society for Development Initiatives (SDI), has formed a huge human chain in Sandwip demanding to start the embankment closure work.
The human chain was held at Harishpur Union embankment at 4 pm yesterday.
The speakers in the human chain drew the attention of the current government and said that if the embankment closure work does not start now, then the people of Sandwip will have to suffer for ages in the future. They strongly demanded the speedy implementation of the 22-kilometer unprotected embankment to protect the lives and property of 4 lakh people.
The program was presided over by SDI Regional Manager Kamal Hossain. SDI CCR Project Community Mobilizer Badal Roy Swadhin moderated the program. Sandwip Municipality BNP Joint Convener Mahbubul Maula Shimul, Upazila Jassas President Master Abkar Hossain, Harishpur BNP leader Abdul Quader Sawdagar, BNP leader Shafiul Azam Thakur, Sandwip Press Club Vice President Ilias Kamal Babu, Bangladesh Press Club Sandwip Branch President Ilias Sumon, SDI Samriddhi Project PC Sirajuddaula, Upazila Program Officer Omar Faruk and others spoke at the event.
