District Press Club Election Completed

The biennial election (2025-26) of the Sylhet District Press Club has been completed. Moin Uddin has been elected as the president and Mohammad Nasir Uddin as the general secretary.

The voting took place from 2 PM to 5 PM yesterday without any break. The final results were announced by the Chief Election Commissioner, Advocate A.K.M. Samiul Alam, after the evening.

In the election, Moin Uddin, the editor of Daily Adhunik Kagoj, was elected as the president, receiving 64 votes. Mohammad Nasir Uddin, the chief reporter of Daily Shyamol Sylhet and senior correspondent of Banglanews24.com in Sylhet, was elected as the general secretary with 87 votes. Additionally, four executive members were elected.

The elected members are: Sohel Ahmed Suhel (correspondent of Daily Kalbela in Bishwanath), Ranjit Kumar Singh, Tuhin Ahmed, and Rajib Ahmed Rasel.

Earlier, on December 20, the Chief Election Commissioner, Advocate A.K.M. Samiul Alam, along with the election commissioners, announced the uncontested candidates for various positions.

The uncontested positions included: Treasurer: Anand Sarkar, News Editor of Daily Jaitya Barta. Office Secretary: Abdul Ahad, Silet correspondent of Daily Rupali Bangladesh. Sports and Cultural Secretary: Shahjahan Selim Bulbul, staff reporter of Asian Television and Bureau Chief of Daily Amar Sangbad and The Daily Post.

Publicity and Publication Secretary: Md. Rezaul Haque Dalim, News In-Charge of Sylhet View and staff reporter of Daily Bangladesh Khobor. Information and Technology Secretary: Jamil Ahmed (Ahmed Jamil), Sylhet District correspondent of Jagonews24.com. Library Secretary: Ali Akbar Chowdhury Kohinoor, Sylhet Correspondent of Financial Express and Daily Bonik Barta.

The results were announced in a ceremony attended by the current president, Hasina Begum Chowdhury, and General Secretary Shah Didar Alam Chowdhury Nabel, along with members of the executive committee.

According to the election commission, the total number of voters in the Sylhet District Press Club was 119. In the election held on Saturday, 111 votes were cast.

During the voting, leaders from various political, journalistic, and professional organizations, including BNP, visited the election venue. Among them were BNP Chairperson's advisor Khondkar Abdul Mukthadir, former Sylhet City Corporation Mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury, central assistant organizing secretary of BNP Miftah Siddiqui, and acting president of Sylhet City BNP Rezaul Hasan Koyes Lodi, among others.
