Farmers busy preparing Boro seedbeds

Kendua is one of the largest upazilas in the Netrakona district. There is no large industrial factory in this upazila. Most of the people in this region depend on agriculture for their livelihood. In 13 unions and 1 municipality of the upazila, thousands of farmers survive by cultivating land. However, most of the farmers grow paddy in the Aman and Eri-Boro seasons as the main crop.

Vishwa Sarkar, a farmer of Paikura Union, said that he cultivates Bri-80 short paddy in 1 bigha of land during the Aman season. He got Boro seeds as an agricultural incentive. He is preparing to prepare a seed bed of Bri-84 rice for Boro season cultivation.

A farmer of the Royalbari union of the upazila said He has decided to cultivate Boro paddy on 3 bigha of land. To meet the fodder demand, he has completed the sowing of Bri-74 seeds in one bigha of land. As the current weather is favorable, he hopes to get healthy seedlings from the nursery. In different areas of the upazila, it has been seen that many farmers are cultivating mustard on that land after cutting the Aman paddy. Farmers have already finished sowing mustard seeds on the land. Now he preparing for paddy cultivation. That's why farmers are currently busy making boro seedbeds.

Assistant Agriculture Officer Mizanur Rahman said that the target of boro paddy cultivation has been set on 20715 hectares of land in the upazila. 5300 farmers have been provided Ufsi seeds as agricultural incentives and hybrid seeds have been provided to 4000 farmers.

A total of 9300 farmers have been provided with Boro seeds. In the upazila, the target area for cultivation in the Boro season has been set at 1005 hectares. Seed sowing is in progress. So far 800 hectares of land have been sown. All our Assistant Agriculture Officers are advising the farmers at the field level so that the farmers can benefit by producing and cultivating healthy seedlings. Besides, we are implementing a plan to fulfill the demand for seeds locally by cultivating high-yielding varieties of rice through farmers.
