Farmers eyeing bumper mustard yield

Md. Belal Pagla, the entrepreneur of Hargaj village of the upazila, planted mustard in Malta garden in the hope of making more profit in Saturia of Manikganj. He first cultivated Malta on 100,000 acres of land. From there he sold a lot of goods. He benefited greatly from this. But later, in the hope of more profit, he started cultivating mustard in the field. He was expecting additional income by growing additional crops at a low cost in a short period. At present, the mustard crop in his Malta field is doing very well.

Entrepreneur Haji Belal Pagla said I cultivated malta in my 100 shotangsho lands before last 4 years. Sold a lot of Malta from the garden. He had success. But to increase the cultivation of edible oil, I have planted mustard along with malta. At present mustard cultivation is very good along with malta. I spent about Tk 5 thousand on mustard cultivation in the garden. If the weather is good, he hopes to get a good yield of mustard at home. Hargaj Block Deputy Assistant Officer  Abdul Gafur said,  Belal Pagla is an entrepreneur. He loves agriculture very much. Earlier he benefited from counter-farming. At present, Belal Pagla has cultivated mustard on his hundred shotangsho of land. We are regularly looking after the garden and give the necessary advice. After seeing the cultivation of mustard in his malta garden, others in the village are also interested in mustard cultivation. Mustard cultivation does not cost much but can be very profitable. Each bigha costs Tk4000-4500. But if the cultivation is good, 6 to 7 maunds of mustard are available per bigha. The market price of which is Tk3 thousand or more per maunds. Farmers can benefit greatly by cutting costs.

Saturia Upazila Agriculture Officer Abdullah Al Mamun said that due to the increase in the price of edible oil, farmers are becoming interested in mustard cultivation.  Belal Pagla cultivated mustard in his Malta garden. The yield has also been good. Necessary agricultural advice is also being given to him from our office. If the weather is good, he is expected to bring home a good yield.
