Farmers‍‍` dream burnt to ashes

Arman Ali (65), the householder, was burnt in the fire incident in the cowshed at Gangni in Meherpur.

The incident took place in the upazila's Kalyanpur Uttar Para at midnight last Thursday. At the same time, one of his cows and a goat were burnt to death.

The householder claimed that the fire started from the fire of ghuto (dry cow dung fuel) which was burnt to repel mosquitoes. Arman Ali, who suffered burns, is currently undergoing treatment at Gangni Upazila Health Complex.

Arman Ali said that he and his family members fell asleep after lighting the fire of Ghuto to repel mosquitoes. Around 1:30 a.m., he was suddenly woken up by the screams of cows and goats. Meanwhile, the fire spread from the barn to the kitchen. He got burnt while taking out the cows and goats kept in the cowshed. Two cows and two goats were burnt in the fire. Among them, one goat and one cow died. He also claimed that there has been a loss of at least Tk three lakh.

Warehouse Inspector of Bamandi Fire Service Sheikh Rubel said that after receiving the news, a team of fire service went to the spot and brought the fire under control with the help of locals. He initially believed that the fire was caused by the fire of dry dung fuel.
