Flood damages nine hec of paddy

Due to the river water rising during heavy rains, water has accumulated in the low land of Shalikha in Magura. As a result, farmers' vegetable fields and Aman paddy have been damaged. According to the Shalikha Upazila Agriculture Office, 170 hectares of land has been set as a target for winter vegetable cultivation in 7 unions of the upazila this season. Farmers have started planting and sowing seeds of winter vegetables from the first week of October. Besides, cultivation of Kharip-1 season was done on 300 hectares of land. This year Ropa Aman paddy has been cultivated in 14 thousand 590 hectares of land in the upazila. Out of this, 9 hectares of paddy has been completely damaged due to heavy rains.

Meanwhile, due to the continuous rains of the last few days, vegetable fields have been flooded in various areas including Patvarar beel, Burul Beel, Shatkhali, Theipara, Kalibari, Barichara, Dhaokhali, Mashakhali, Sarbasangdha, Lakshipur, Pulum, Harishpur. Water has accumulated in the fields of lal shaak, cauliflower, cabbage, tomato, bitter gourd, spinach, eggplant, radish, green chilies. Also the saplings of Aman paddy plants have fallen to the ground. The paddy fields of some lands have sunk Pradeep Biswas, a farmer of Thaipara village, said, "The rains of the last two-three days have caused extensive damage to crops. Water is stuck in the land. All the vegetables are spoiled because the water cannot come out. Along with this, the paddy field has fallen.

Crops have been damaged due to water logging in the fields. Farmer Tapan Ghosh said, this year, in the hope of more profit; I have cultivated cauliflower and cabbage in several lands in advance of winter. But in the last three days of continuous rain, the plants are getting damaged due to accumulation of water. Also, chili and brinjal fields have already been destroyed and some are submerged under water.

Shalikha upazila agriculture officer agriculturist Md Alamgir Hossain said that due to heavy rains, the water of Fatki and Chitra rivers has increased, the vegetable and Aman paddy fields of various areas including Thaipara and Barichara of the upazila have flooded. And in some areas, water has accumulated in the vegetable and Aman paddy fields As a result; Phataki and Chitra rivers should be excavated to bring back its freshness. Besides, I have decided to send a letter to the Water Development Board for digging the river.
