A free fertilizer and seed distribution program has been inaugurated among 2,500 small and marginal farmers in Matiranga of Khagrachhari district under the incentive program to increase the production of Boro rice (Ufshi and hybrid) varieties in the Rabi season of 2024-25.
Matiranga Upazila Agriculture Extension Department organized a fertilizer and seed distribution program in front of the Upazila Agriculture Office, with Matiranga Upazila Agriculture Officer Md Sabuj Ali in the chair yesterday morning. Matiranga Upazila Nirbahi Officer Manjur Alam spoke as the chief guest.
Deputy Assistant Plant Protection Officer Md Amir Hesen, Deputy Assistant Agriculture Officer Joynal Abedin, Debashish Chakma, and Krishak Krishani among others were present at the time.
Upazila Agriculture Officer Md Sabuj Ali said, "The Department of Agriculture Extension is distributing free seeds and fertilizers to small and marginal farmers in flood-affected areas across the country with the aim of further increasing food production in our country." In continuation of this, 1,500 farmers out of 2,500 farmers in Matiranga Upazila Agriculture Office will receive 2 kg of hybrid seed paddy for every bigha of land, and 1,000 farmers will receive 5 kg of Ufshi seed paddy, 10 kg of DAP, and 10 kg . MOP fertilizer for every bigha.
At the end of the discussion meeting, the chief guest, Matiranga Upazila Nirbahi Officer Manjur Alam, handed over free fertilizers and seeds to 2,500 farmers of the upazila.
