Giving ‍‍`proxy‍‍` exam for 10 years

Kawsar Ali, a student of applied nutrition and food technology department of Kushtia Islami University in 2008-09 session, has been giving 'proxy' exams for the last 10 years. Although he completed his studies in 2014, he chose the 'proxy' exam as a means of earning a living. Finally, last Friday, Dhaka University (DU) campus came to look for 'proxy' candidates and played catch.

On Friday around 8:30 pm, a DU student caught Kawsar Ali and took him to the office of the University Journalists Association. There, he himself showed many proofs to the reporters admitting his involvement in question leaks and proxy cases for the last 10 years. Then around 2 am (Friday morning) he was arrested by the Shahbag police station with the help of the university's Proctoral Mobile Team.

Kawsar Ali was caught red-handed when he came to Dhaka University (DU) to look for management subject 'proxy' candidates for Abu Bakar Siddique Reza, general secretary of Jaypurhat District Chatra League, in the latest teacher registration examination. He gave such information during police interrogation.

It is known that Kawsar Ali's house is in Kuatpur area of Panchbibi Upazila of Joypurhat district. He was a student of Applied Nutrition and Food Technology Department in Kushtia Islami University in 2008-09 session. He completed his studies in 2014.

On July 29, 2022, a news item was published in the daily Amar Sangbad titled 'That Chatra League leader was also the master of many misdeeds in Du'. It is said in that news, "Dhaka University's Haji Muhammad Mohsin Hall branch Chatra League leader Md. Ekhlachur Rahman was sentenced to one year imprisonment last July 26 for giving a proxy in Rajshahi University's 'A' unit admission test (participating in the admission test on behalf of the main candidate Limon). There are various charges against him.

In his confession, he said that he gave 'proxy' for the candidates in various grades of government job examination. He is also used as a medium to find a competent person as a proxy for a job test.

Apart from the preliminary examination for teacher registration, he and his associates have been providing 'proxy' candidates for the recruitment examination of various government and state-owned organizations including various railway posts, assistant teachers in primary schools and village electricity societies.

Moreover, he also does the work of leaking various exam questions. This information is corroborated by seeing conversations with several people on his mobile phone. He himself admitted it.

For almost 10 years, he is associated with proxy and question leak cycle in various recruitment exams of government jobs.

Kawsar said that he took Tk 20,000 to sit for the exam. If you can't take the exam yourself, 'Proxy' candidates are used as a medium. And after participating in the exam, if he passes, he gets one to one and a half lakh taka depending on the job.

How Kawsar was caught?

An agreement was reached with Jaypurhat district Chatra League leader Abu Bakar Siddique Reza to provide proxy candidates for last Friday's teacher registration examination. This Chatra League leader contacted a student of Dhaka University to come to the campus in search of a proxy donor. Following this, Kawsar Ali came to Suhrawardy Udyan near the university last Friday evening to meet a proxy named 'Robin' along with the Chatra League leader and his uncle. Using the name 'Robin', the student of DU brought him to the campus and arrested his classmates and sent them to the office of the Dhaka University Journalists' Association.

When Kawsar was brought to the office of the Journalists' Association, among the DU students were Pallab Rana Parvez, a student of the Department of Public Administration and Bangabandhu Hall Chatra League's employment secretary.

Pallab said in this context, a friend of mine named Peer Saqib (Department of Communication Impairment, Ektar Hall) called me in the evening and asked me to come to Suhrawardy Udyan. He says that there is a question leak gang member caught. An elder brother of his hall asked us to go there. I do not know that elder brother personally. Later when Bayezid (Department of Islamic History and Culture, Hall seventy-one) and I went there and checked the phone of the man named Kaushar, we found more than 500 admit cards in his phone. It was not left to understand that he was a proxy or a member of the question leak circle. Later, he was brought to the office of the journalist association from our place of responsibility.

Kawsar informed about the involvement of students of several educational institutions including Dhaka and Jagannath University in the proxy cycle. Among them are the names of Ali Abbas and Efrat Hossain, students of Haji Muhammad Mohsin Hall of Dhaka University, Solaiman and Iqbal Hossain of Vijay Ekatar Hall and Rakib and Hasan, students of Physics Department of Jagannath University. According to Kawsar, these students of DU and Jabir contacted Kawsar and gave proxies for various job tests and arranged for the proxies.

Among them, his contact with Sulaiman has been going on for a long time. But a few days ago, Solaiman did not talk about one and a half lakh rupees from Kawsar's wife on the condition of arranging a proxy for the job examination. Because of this, their relationship became bitter if Kawsar continued to put pressure on Solaiman. In view of this, Solaiman disguised himself as Robin, contacted him on WhatsApp and brought him to the Dhaka University campus and beat him up.

Kawsar said that Shimul, a former student of Bogra Azizul Haq College Geography Department, Abu Zor Giffari of Islamic Studies Department, Raihan of Islamic History Department, Azizul of Bengali Department, Akash (cousin of Kaushar), Aminul Islam, Babul Mia and Saiful were also involved in the proxy and question leak cycle is involved.

Jaypurhat District Chatra League General Secretary Abu Bakar Siddique Reza was called several times but could not be reached. Besides, the other members of his circle he named could not be immediately reached.

Dhaka University Proctor Professor Dr. Md. Maksudur Rahman said, "Last night (Friday), we handed over the member of the proxy and question leak circle to the Shahbag police station. He is now in police custody. We are looking into the various information given by him. All the facts will be analyzed and legal action will be taken against him.

He also said that the names of the students of Dhaka University involved in the gang have been received from the arrested person, the information of them has been sent to the provost of each hall. They will discuss and take action.

In the investigation and interrogation of the case, Deputy Inspector of Police of Shahbagh Police Station, Md Khalek Mia, said, “Kawsar Ali is the coordinator of the proxy and question leak cycle. DU, RU, JU formed teams of talented students and gave proxies and leaked questions. Admit record was created by matching the photo of the applicant student with the photo of the proxy. He used to take 20,000 to 3 lakh taka in return.
