Hundreds of people from Halda neighborhood cross the Sanko at risk every day. On three sides is the Ichamati river and on the other side is Nadia district of India. From a distance, it looks like an isolated island. A hundred years old village, where people make a living by cultivating various types of vegetables along with seasonal crops and hunting fish. The residents of that village are successful in everything but their only sorrow is the river bridge.
There is no end to the sorrow of the villagers due to the lack of a bridge. They are deprived of all facilities. I was talking about Srinathpur Haldar Para village of Maheshpur Upazila of Jhenaidah bordering India.
It is known that more than one and a half hundred families lived in Srinathpur Haldar Para village of Ichamati side after the liberation war. At that time, most of the residents of the village used to earn their livelihood by fishing. With the passage of time, many are involved in farming. Being a fertile land, vegetables and cotton are grown there. However, due to the lack of any development, the settlement in the village gradually decreased. Now only 35 families are living there. It can be seen that the farmers are busy cultivating winter vegetables. Women are doing agricultural work equally with men. The river Ichamati, once a drought, flows through the three sides of the village. Sanko is made of bamboo on the river.
Manoranjan Halder, a resident of that village, said, "I have been hearing since the liberation war that there will be a bridge over the river. But so far I could not see. It is very difficult for boys and girls to cross the barrier to go to school. Many people broke their arms and legs by falling from the bridge into the river. I visited various offices but did not get any results.
Another resident named Purnima Rani said, "Relatives do not come to our house due to bad traffic conditions. Once my daughter was very sick. I could not take her to the hospital after crossing Sanko in the middle of the night. When I took her to the hospital the next day, her condition had worsened.
Local Shyamkur Union Parishad Chairman Jamirul Islam said, "We have informed various departments in writing for the construction of a bridge in Haldar Para. However, no allocation has been given for the construction of the bridge.
Deputy Commissioner of Jhenaidah Abdul Awal said, I have heard about the suffering of the people of that village on the Indian border. The concerned authorities have already been informed for the construction of the bridge.
