Ever since the joining of Abdullah Al Mamun as Superintendent of Police (SP) of Chuadanga, every unit of the district police has been vocal and strict in preventing drug-trafficking. Under the leadership and general direction of SP Abdullah Al Mamun, who is prudent and skilled in crime suppression, special operations against drug and smuggling are being conducted in every police station area of the district. In continuation of that, two smugglers were arrested along with five gold bars worth around half a million Taka in the operation of Chuadanga Sadar police outpost on Thursday night. A silver colored private car was also seized.
At the same time, SP Abdullah Al Mamun arrived at the spot. Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle) and other police officers were also present at that time. The gold bars were seized from the accused in front of witnesses and media people`s presence at the spot. At this time, SP Abdullah Al Mamun said that, "Two people were arrested with five gold bars by conducting an operation based on secret information. A private car carrying illegal gold was also seized.
The matter is being closely monitored and investigated to catch the entire gold smuggling syndicate. A case has also been filed under the Special Powers Act in the Chuadanga police station in the name of the two. Case number-15". Meanwhile, Sadar Police Outpost officials said that on Thursday night, Sadar Police Outpost came to know on the basis of secret information that two persons were coming towards Chuadanga in a silver color private car with illegal goods (gold bars) for smuggling from neighboring district Jhenaidah.
Based on that news, the police quickly set up a check post on the Chuadanga-Jhenaidah regional highway at the entrance of the old stadium of Chuadanga Municipality. Two were caught with private car, gold at that check post. The arrested are Kamrul Hasan Jewel (35), son of deceased Mozammel Haque of Kutubpur village of Damurhuda Upazila of Chuadanga and Arif (48), son of Haji Abdul Jabbar of the same village. Arif is the owner and driver of that private car.
After the arrest, the smuggler Jewel said in the initial interrogation of police that he was going towards the Kutub-adjacent Indian border in his private vehicle with the intention of smuggling this gold from Faridpur to India. Arif, who identified himself as the owner of the private car, told the police that the car was rented by Jewel. He knows nothing about gold. Officer-in-charge (OC) of Chuadanga Sadar Police Station Mahabbur Rahman said that,"Two persons named Arif and Jewel have been arrested. It is believed that both of them have been involved in this work for a long time and they have a large syndicate across the country. The campaign against them will continue".
