The general students of Rangpur protested by blocking the Dhaka-Rangpur highway demanding that the northern region should have an adviser in the interim government.
Around 11:30 am on Yesterday, students from various educational institutions of Rangpur gathered in front of Lalbagh. From there they marched to Modern junction through Begum Rokeya University.
Around 12:30 these students blocked the Dhaka-Rangpur highway and sat down at the Modern junction. At that time, one of the coordinators of anti-discrimination student movement of Rangpur, Imran Ahmed, Ashfaq Ahmed, Nahid Hasan Khandkar, Imtiaz Ahmed, Yasir Arafat, Carmichael College student Saiful Islam, student Shariful Islam etc. spoke there.
Speakers complained that the interim government is discriminating against Rangpur and Rajshahi divisions. 13 Advisers of interim government appointed from Chattogram.
No one was taken from the northern part of the department. Regional disparity will increase if the interim government continues like this.
Imran Ahmed said, Rangpur is the cradle of July mass uprising. The July uprising began with the blood of Abu Sayed. On August 10, the chief adviser of the Interim government Muhammad Yunus came to Rangpur and said, Rangpur will be one of the best districts in the country and number one. But there is not a single adviser in the government to speak for the people of Rangpur region. Rangpur, the birthplace of Abu Sayed, is being neglected.
The speakers demanded to advise several qualified people from the northern region, including Akhtar Hossain, the former social service secretary of the Dhaka University Chatra Sangsad (DUCSU) and member secretary of the National Citizen Committee. At this time they shouted slogans like 'stop discrimination', 'want to see Akhtar Hossain as an advisor'. The protestors ended the program after staying there for an hour.
If the demand is not met, the agitators have threatened to announce a program to block Rangpur division along with blocking roads and railways. At this time, the speakers raised three points of demand on behalf of the students of North Bengal to eliminate regional discrimination.
Earlier, on Monday and Tuesday afternoon, these students protested by blocking the road at the press club junction of the city demanding the appointment of Akhtar Hossain as an advisor to government.
