A class of unscrupulous businessmen are selling fuel oil in the open market in Brahmanbaria Nabinagar, disregarding government regulations. They are selling inflammable substances like petrol, diesel and octane without government approval in various UP bazars including Nabinagar town of upazila. As they are readily available to miscreants, fatal accidents can happen anytime. Also, the government loses VAT-tax revenue.

It can be seen that no one in the upazila has a valid license to sell fuel except 2/3 of the shops in the city. Almost 10 fuel oil or petroleum-like substance-selling shops have been built in the municipality alone, ignoring all regulations without approval. As these shops are illegal, their oil collection method is also illegal. There are also numerous illegal shops in the unions. Many people in civil society have said that vandals can buy fuel from these shops and carry out rampages in different places very easily.

According to the relevant sources, fuel oil cannot be sold in any shop without a license from the Department of Explosives according to the Petroleum Act.  But the unscrupulous businessmen of the upazila are operating the fuel oil business with only trade licenses in exchange for money from the municipal office/ union council without paying attention to these licenses.  In this way, ordinary people are in fear and anxiety every moment in the sale of fuel oil. Chemical fertilizer shops and LPG shops are also selling octane, diesel, petrol, and kerosene. The oil is sold by mixing gas condensate or bottoms with other inferior substances collected from various petrol pumps and smuggled. low weight is also another trend of illegal oil traders. The victims said that the use of these low-quality adulterated oils is causing severe damage to the car's engine. Besides, its black smoke is also polluting the environment. This oil burns the eyes of the passengers and makes more noise than the engine. These adulterated stolen oils reduce the mileage of the car. Dulal Saki, the owner of Titus Enterprises in the city, said that many people are selling fuel illegally. Which is very dangerous because none of them have an explosive license and fire extinguisher oxygen cylinders.

Mokhlesh, the owner of Mukhless Enterprise, said, "Many people are illegally trading fuel oil. But they are taking these oils from us. Our business will suffer. Therefore, we do not file any complaint against them in the administration."

Nirbahi Officer of Nabinagar Upazila Tanvir Farhad Shamim said that legal action will be taken against the illegal oil traders through mobile court very soon.
