Illegal sand extraction is destroying cropland

In Bogra's Dhunat, illegal sand extraction is destroying cropland one after another. For a long time, sand has been extracted from the Bengali River in Faridpur Purbapara of Nimgachhi Union in the upazila. As a result of this illegal sand extraction, not only cropland is being destroyed in the river, but also the houses in the river's spur area are facing threat. It is feared that hundreds of people may become destitute due to loss of livelihood. Locals believe that sand extraction is increasing day by day due to the lack of any action by the administration.

It was seen on the spot that Yusuf Ali, son of Rashid Pramanik of Baliadighi Union of Gabtoli Upazila, has been illegally extracting sand from the deep bottom using a dredger from the Bengali River in Faridpur Purbapara of Nimgachhi Union for a long time. Locals said that Yusuf Ali mostly extracts and sells sand at night to avoid the attention of the administration. Locals claim that if the administration does not take action against the illegal sand traders, they will be banned locally.

In this regard, Dhunat Upazila Nirbahi Officer Christopher Himel Richil said, I am not aware of the matter. However, legal action will be taken soon after investigation.
