Immature mangoes damaged by heatwave

The immature mangoes are falling due to severe drought and heat wave in Burichang of Cumilla. As a consequence, the farmers of the upazila are in worries that if this continues, they likely to face huge amount of loss.

According to the Agriculture Office, different varieties of mangoes have been cultivated in 9 unions of the upazila. In most orchards, mangoes are falling to the ground. But now the mango farmers are preparing to give water especially on the advice of the Upazila Agriculture Office.

Anwar Hossain, a mango farmer of Anandapur area of Bakshimul union, said the mango are much less this year than last year, but the mangoes have come well. But due to severe drought, the mangoes are now falling off. If this situation continues, I am afraid of losing a lot of money in the garden.

Md Abu Kawsar, a mango farmer of Bhabermura area of Rajapur union, said that before the arrival of buds, it was fairly good to take care of the orchard. But immature mangoes are now falling due to severe drought. If mangoes fall like this, we will have to face losses.

Upazila Agriculture Officer Afrina Akhter said, "We are advising the farmers to spray adequate water on the roots of mango trees in every orchard. Besides, our field workers are constantly in touch with the mango farmers from the field and giving various suggestions."
