Leaders of Sylhet AL try to settle abroad

There is no opportunity to return to party politics in the country very easily. If you return home, you will go to jail. For their conducts and misconducts during power, they will be under fire due to many controversial activities. Awami League leaders of Sylhet who fled after August 5 from these thoughts are planning to settle abroad. Some leaders who have migrated to the UK have already applied for political asylum.

Leaders who became members of parliament after withdrawing their British passports are also trying to settle there again. Those who do not have the opportunity to settle in Europe or America want to arrange a work or residence permit visa in different countries of the Middle East. Party sources have confirmed that the leaders who fled are thinking of settling abroad as there is little chance of creating a favorable environment for Awami League politics in the country.

According to sources, after the escape of Sheikh Hasina on August 5, hundreds of leaders and activists of Sylhet Awami League and its affiliates fled to India to escape public anger. After that, they moved to different countries of United Kingdom, United States, Canada and Middle East.

Among those who left for UK are Sylhet district Awami League president and former state minister Shafiqur Rahman Chowdhury, removed mayor of City Corporation Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury, metropolitan Awami League joint general secretary Azadur Rahman Azad and Bidhan Kumar Saha, district Awami League organizing secretary and former MP advocate Ranjit Sarkar, Former MP Habibur Rahman Habib, District Awami League information and research Secretary Mobashir Ali, General Secretary of Mahanagar Jubo League Mushfiq Jaigirdar, Former Organizing Secretary MA Hannan, President of Mahanagar Swechasebak League Aftab Hossain Khan. In addition, more than half a hundred activists are currently staying in the UK.

Several leaders of the party have confirmed that Bidhan Kumar Saha and Ranjit Sarkar have applied for political asylum in that country. Shafiqur Rahman Chowdhury and Habibur Rahman Habib revoked their British citizenship and elected in the country. They are also away from the thought of returning home in the current situation. Apart from this, other leaders are also monitoring the situation. It is said that if the situation does not improve within the next 3-4 months, they are also planning to apply for political asylum.

Meanwhile, district Awami League executive members Manzoor Shafi Chowdhury Elim and Shahidur Rahman Chowdhury Jabed, Mahanagar Chhatra League president Kishwar Jahan Sourab are staying in the United States. All three were US citizens but had been staying in the country for several years for political reasons. For now, they have also put aside the thought of returning home.

Abdul Alim Tushar, former general secretary of Mahanagar Chhatra League, has moved to Canada with his family. He is also thinking of settling there. Besides, District Chhatra League President Nazmul Islam, his elder brother former Chhatra League leader Kamrul Islam and Wali Ullah Badrul are in Saudi Arabia and District Swechasebak League Joint General Secretary Emdad Rahman is currently staying in Dubai.

A leader of Sylhet Awami League, who is staying in the UK, said that we have to wait at least 10 years for a favorable environment for Awami League politics in Bangladesh. Dozens of cases have been filed against each leader in the country. If you return home, you will have to go to jail for a long time.

Sources said that some of the activists still staying in India are preparing to go to UK within a month.
