Scientists, workers, and employees at all levels of the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC) peacefully observed a sit-in at 40 institutions across the country, including the head office, from 22-24 April 2025, to restore autonomy and protest against the ministry`s undue interference and authoritarian behavior.
If, the higher authorities do not immediately respond to address the problems, the commissioners, workers, and employees at all levels have announced a two-day self-organizational sit-in and public signature collection program from Sunday, April 27, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
The ongoing movement will involve the commissioner, the commissioner`s chairman and members, and a full commission will have to be formed as soon as possible by providing permanent positions to the vacant posts. To maintain the commissioner`s autonomy, the ministry`s interference in the work under the commissioner`s jurisdiction will have to be stopped immediately, and a research-friendly and respectful work environment will have to be ensured. The authority to grant pre-approval and nomination for higher education and training in the state shall be vested in the commission. The complexity and inefficiency in the provision of higher education, training, etc. shall be removed. The commission shall retain the authority to meet the necessary expenses of the commission by depositing the said amount in the scheduled bank as per sections 20(1) and 20(2) of the Pension Act, 2017. The powers of the commission shall be maintained in force. All the posts of the demoted officers, staff, and employees shall be improved, and the inefficiency shall be eliminated. The publication of the notice under section 18(2) of the Pension Act, 1985, A notification should be issued to ensure that the professors in the university get Grade-2, Grade-1 in the submission of the Chief Scientific Officer to the Commissioner. The commission, which is the owner organization, should be excluded, and the PPP between NPCBL and PDBI should be announced. For the smooth execution of research work, new posts should be created, all temporary posts should be made permanent, and the research allocation should be increased. The Commissioner should introduce special facilities for the scientists, staff, and employees, such as: House construction/flat purchase loan and interest-free loan in applicable areas and car cashback, etc. To provide a job, irrelevant information should not be asked for. There should be no compulsion to join the IDSDP.
