The incidence of dengue and malaria increasing day by day in the hilly district of Bandarban. Although dengue has spread in areas around the city, malaria outbreaks have occurred in remote upazilas. As a result, people of all ages including young and old are affected by these two diseases. Doctors are struggling to provide treatment due to the increasing pressure from patients in the district sadar hospital and Upazila Health Complex. However, many have recovered with regular medication and treatment.

It is known that Bandarban Sadar, Thanchi, Lama, and Alikadam remote areas are mostly affected by dengue and malaria. In two upazilas of Thanchi and Alikadam, Malaria outbreaks have occurred in the affected areas including Tindu, Remakri, Bara Madak, Kurukpata, and Crossing Para without proper medicine and treatment. Even though mosquito nets have been provided by various NGOs, malaria cases are increasing day by day because they are not used.

Children are affected by most of this disease. Moreover, after returning from Jhum cultivation work in those areas, even if they use mosquito nets while sleeping at night, the children are affected when they are out of mosquito nets.

On the other hand, the dengue outbreak occurred in several places including Armipara, Banrupa, Member Para, and Kashem Para in the district Sadar. Aedes mosquitoes spread due to water freezing in the yard when it rains lightly. As a result, many people who are affected by dengue disease are taking treatment at home and many are coming to the hospital for treatment. Most people have recovered from it.

According to the hospital information, 27 people were admitted to the hospital with dengue disease, and 21 people were admitted with malaria disease in the last week. Among them, 13 people have recovered from dengue and 20 have recovered from malaria. At present 14 people are admitted to the hospital and 1 person is admitted for malaria. However, Thanchi, Lama, and Alikadam, three upazilas have more malaria cases. It has been seen on the ground that hundreds of people are coming to health centers in seven upazilas of Bandarban to be tested for malaria and dengue. Children are mostly affected by this disease. Due to these two diseases, some are being admitted to the hospital, while others are taking treatment at home. However, besides not panicking, the doctor advises to take proper treatment.

According to Upazila Health Complex sources, the number of malaria cases is high in these three upazilas, Thanchi, Alikadam and Lama. In the months since June this year, hundreds of thousands have been infected with malaria and have taken medical care. However, doctors believe that this number will be more in remote areas. It is said that people in remote areas do not come to the health complex when they have fever. When the situation is serious, it comes. Meanwhile, patients are admitted to the hospital every day due to malaria and dengue in the district sadar. Some malaria and dengue patients including Saidul, Mosaddek said that they came to the hospital for examination with body and headache and vomiting. Many people were diagnosed with malaria and dengue. Now admitted to the hospital and taking regular medicine, and feeling somewhat healthy.

Md. Tarekul Islam, Resident Officer (RMO) at Bandarban Sadar Hospital said that there is an outbreak of malaria from May to August. Because it is now the monsoon season, malaria is high. If the medicated mosquito nets provided by the government are used properly, the incidence of malaria will decrease.

Bandarban Civil Surgeon Dr Mahabubur Rahman said, now that it is monsoon season, there will be more outbreaks of malaria and dengue. Because now is the season of this disease. However, the number of malaria cases in these three upazilas Thanchi, Alikadam and Lama is high but many are recovering. And although he was admitted to the district headquarters hospital with dengue and malaria, he is recovering. He said that there is no reason to panic after getting well after regular treatment.
