Nabanna festival reaches every house

After overcoming all fears, the Aman paddy harvesting has begun in Kishoreganj. Farmers are busy harvesting Aman paddy in a festive atmosphere in various upazilas of the district.

Although disaster after another has occurred since the beginning of Aman planting, the farmers have now forgotten their sweaty labor due to the good yield and good prices. Nabanna festival is going on in every house.

After going to the spot, it was seen that the Aman paddy harvesting has begun everywhere at once. Farmers are harvesting paddy themselves with daily workers according to their ability. Some are getting paddy harvesting done on contract. Along with the farmers, their family members are also helping in harvesting Aman paddy.

The farmers' family members celebrate this festival by making various types of pitha-semai with the new paddy. The people of this place have been following a tradition of inviting the son-in-law of the house and visiting the houses of relatives and relatives around the Nabanna festival for ages.

Officially, the Nabanna festival is celebrated on the first day of the month of Ogrohayon with various arrangements at the initiative of the Upazila Agricultural Extension Office.

According to the Tarail Upazila Agricultural Office, this year, the target of cultivating Aman rice in seven unions of the upazila has been set at 7,730 hectares of land. Hybrid 500 hectares, Ufshi 7,200 hectares, local 30 hectares of land. The target of producing Aman rice has been set at 24,057 metric tons of rice.

According to the information of the Pakundia Upazila Agricultural Office, this year, Aman rice has been cultivated on 10,200 hectares of land in this upazila. The farmers here cultivate B-49, B-87, B-75 and hybrid varieties of rice. In the hope of higher yields, 40 satak of the cultivated land has been cultivated with hybrid rice.

Rafiqul Islam, a farmer from Tarakandi village in Jangalia union of Pakundia upazila, said that this year he cultivated B-49 variety rice on three and a half bighas of land. He spent Tk 8 thousand per bigha. He is hoping to get 60 maunds of rice on three and a half bighas of land due to the good yield. He is collecting rice with great joy as the price of rice is good this year.

Farmers Rabiqul Islam, Karim Khan and Saiful Islam from Taljanga union of Tarail upazila said that we have started cutting Bina 17 and Bri rice 75 in our land. Due to favorable weather and rainfall this year, the yield of Aman rice in the fields has been good. This time the yield of rice has been much better than last time. There is a festive atmosphere in every area.

Khalilur Rahman Milon, Deputy Assistant Agriculture Officer of Rauti Block of Rauti Union of Tarail Upazila, said that in a few days, the farmers will start their festival after harvesting their Aman paddy and bringing it home. After the farmers harvest the paddy and bring it home, the farmers are busy cleaning it and drying it in the sun and also spending time at home with cotton.

Tarail Upazila Agriculture Officer Krishibid Bikash Roy said that this time the Aman harvest has been good. Currently, the festival of harvesting paddy and cotton at home is going on all around. Everyone is spending a busy time harvesting Aman paddy. Seeing the paddy harvest, the farmers are smiling.

Pakundia Upazila Agriculture Officer Nur-e-Alam said that since the planting of Aman this year, the Aman fields were partially damaged due to heavy rains. Later, the farmers were in despair due to the attack of rats, currant beetles and fungi. The concerned officials of the Agriculture Office have worked day and night to give strength and courage to the farmers. Aman rice has yielded a good harvest this year again, thanks to the use of light traps to protect crops from weevil attacks and timely application of pesticides to control rats.
