Organized by the Comilla Narcotics Control Directorate and with the overall cooperation of Kanthnagar residents, a discussion meeting was held on Wednesday in Kanthnagar Bazaar area of Pirjatrapur Union of Burichang Upazila to create public awareness on drug prevention.
Burichong Upazila Nirbahi officer Sahida Akhtar was the chief guest of the program while showing the red card to the drug addicts and reading the oath to the residents.
The meeting was presided over by Lilu Mia, former head teacher of Mithilapur High School. Prominent businessmen Rashedul Haque and Omar Farooq co-hosted. Principal of Comilla Residential College Mohammad Abdul Hannan was present as the main discussant.
Chowdhury Imrul Hasan, Deputy Director of Narcotics Control Department, Azizul Haque, Officer-in-charge of Burichong Police Station, prominent businessman Muminul Haque were present as special guests.
Zahirul Haque Kanungo, Gosaipur Dakhil Madrasa Superintendent Shafiqul Rahman Bhuiyan, Panel Chairman Abdul Haque, Tarekul Islam Piyas spoke.
Former members Zahirul Islam, Qari Abdul Malek, Abu Kaushar, Iqbal Hossain, Tanveer, Abul Hossain, Zahir Ashraf and other dignitaries of the area were present.
During the event, the locals displayed red cards saying no to militancy, drugs, evictions, child marriage, corruption and took an oath of commitment to truthfulness, patriotism and humanity.
Earlier, upazila Nirbahi officer Sahida Akhter distributed prizes among the winners of the quiz competition.
