Sylhet Customs Authority accused of land grabbing

The Customs Authority has been accused of demolishing a private road wall in Zindabazar Tantipara of Sylhet city.

The victim landowner, Kazi Mosharraf Hossain, claims that the road wall was demolished without any prior announcement or notice.

It is learned that Kazi Mosharraf Hossain inherited 0.1050 acre land at JL No 91, SA Khatian No 143/985 in Sylhet Municipality Mouza. He has been paying government revenue for a long time. Recently, the Customs Authority has demolished the wall surrounding the house without any prior announcement on the pretext of moving to the government office and installed a gate.

Meanwhile, the Customs Authority claims that the land is the property of the Customs. However, a legal notice has been sent to the Customs Commissioner on November 18 to understand the ownership of the land. The victim's lawyer, Syed Mohammad Tarek, said that the customs authorities have been asked to remove the obstacles created by the authorities within 15 days of receiving the notice. In addition, the customs authorities refused to talk to journalists about the demolition of privately owned land and road walls.
