Three women of the same family have been named in the dead list of voter IDs. Due to this, those widows and elderly women are deprived of various facilities including government allowances. Victims' house in Hiranya Bari area of Mahadan Union of Sarishabari Upazila in Jamalpur. The victimized women are Alamgir's wife Anjuara (39), deceased Mehar Ali's wife Mariam Begum (64), and deceased Rafiqul Islam's wife Jahanara (52).
Anjuara said I have been shown dead on the voter ID list for the last 6 years. My children are not getting school stipends as I am dead on Voter ID. Also, there is a problem with getting various government facilities including VGD, VGF, and TCB. I have not received my smart national identity card as I am dead.
Mariam Begum said I have no husband and children. I am over 60 years old. I can't work now. The government provided a widow's allowance card. Allowance card stopped as dead in voter list.
Jahanara said for the last seven years, I have been shown dead in the voter ID. But I am alive. I don't understand how they make me dead. Due to their mistake today I am not able to do anything with this voter ID. Wherever you go for anything, they say you are dead on your voter ID.
Shafiqul Islam, the teacher accused of collecting information in this regard, accepted the responsibility for his mistake and said it was my mistake. I will have them done within a week.
In this regard, Mahadan UP Chairman AKM Anishur Rahman Jewel said that three people are still alive even though they are shown dead in the voter ID. The people who collected their information made this mistake.
Upazila Election Officer Sakhawat Hossain said if they come to me, I will first solve their ID card issue. May they get speedy civic services.
He also said about the accused teacher Shafiqul Islam, who collected information, I asked that teacher to come through my staff. I will look into the matter. If I get the truth, I will discuss it with my superiors and take action against him.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sharmin Akhter said that if they come to the office and apply, action will be taken regarding their ID card correction and widow allowance.
