In the isolated union of Sandwip, Uridchar is not being stopped even by dropping geo bags to prevent massive river erosion. Residents have demanded to take permanent measures to prevent demolition. A spur embankment (Groen) of the Tir Raksha Dam built at a cost of Tk 2.25 lakh in Uridchar to prevent river erosion last November is collapsing. To protect the grove, the town authorities are trying to prevent erosion by filling geotextile bags with sand. But as a result of the terrible erosion, hundreds of thousands of families, including a mosque, are under the threat of erosion again. Thousands of people have become helpless. Uridchar Sub Post Office and Uridchar Union Parishad buildings have already been destroyed due to erosion. After the collapse of the UP building, now the activities of the UP are going on in the Asrayan project. Colony Bazar, Mostans' Billah Shelter Project, Dwipbandhu Mustafizur Rahman Dakhil Madrasa, Uridchar Junior High School, and Shah Bangali Shelter Project are now facing severe erosion. If no action is taken now then these too may be lost in the river.
According to the source of Water Development Board, if this breakdown is to be prevented in any way, then 400,000 G-bags are required here, 28,000 G-bags have been allocated there, and 8,000 G-bags have already escaped to the river basin. When asked to know about this, Water Development Board S.O. Md. Ariful Islam said that there are eight kilometers of break here. Here we have given a 200-meter geo bag out of 7400 meters and we are submitting a project to prevent erosion.
