Notable amount of fishermen deprive of fisherman‍‍`s card

- Fishermen living in Bindu Para said that among 500 families living there, only 125 to 130 fishermen have received fisherman identity cards.

The government has banned hilsa hunting for 22 days from October 12 to protect mother hilsa. Fishermen will not be able to fish in the Padma river. Most of the fishermen in the Padma river do not even have professional cards, so the outcasts will not get any government support. As a result, they are in doubt of living an inhumane life during the ban.

About five hundred fishermen families live in Bindu Para of Tepakhola area of Sadar Upazila of Faridpur. Most of the people living there earn their livelihood by catching and selling fish in the nearby Padma River. But they are in trouble because the government has banned hilsa fishing for 22 days to protect mother hilsa. Because even though there is a ban on hilsa hunting, no kind of fish hunting is allowed in the Padma river at this time. Fishermen living in Bindu Para said that among the 500 families living there, 125 to 130 fishermen have received fisherman identity cards. As a result only they will get government support at this time. And a large part will remain out of cooperation. Fishermen complain that many who are not eligible to get the card got the fishermen card but many of the real fishermen are deprived.

Residents of Bindupara claim that they have failed to get registered as fishermen. Many have submitted supporting documents including national identity card, but their names have not appeared in the list so far. Their demand is to prepare the list of real fishermen properly. And they think that the solution can be found in that. Although there is no inconsistency in making the list of fishermen, the senior fisheries officials of Faridpur Sadar Upazila Most Shirin Sharmin Khan said. She said that the real fishermen are getting VGF benefits. She also claimed that the list of fishermen is being updated every year. According to the list of upazila fisheries office, there are 950 fishermen listed in this upazila, but in reality this number is much higher than the real fishermen. They demand to update this list immediately.
