Border Guard Bangladesh (58 BGB) arrested one person with 40 gold bars worth Tk 4 crore, from the border area of Maheshpur in Jhenaidah.

He was arrested along with gold bars from Matila area of Jadabpur UP in Maheshpur Upazila of Jhenaidah district yesterday morning. The arrested Rimon Hossain (20) is the son of Hazrat Ali of Matila Baganpara village of Maheshpur upazila.

Maheshpur 58 BGB director Lt. Col. Masud Parvez Rana said that a special patrol team of the battalion headquarter, was stationed in the Matila BOP area on the Matila border of Maheshpur upazila based on intelligence that gold would be smuggled. When two smugglers were walking towards the border, one ran away on sensing the presence of the BGB, but the other was arrested. During this time, 40 gold bars weighing 4 kg and 665.54 grams were recovered. At that time, the accused person was arrested for transporting gold to India for smuggling and keeping it under his control. The mobile phone used by him was also seized.

He further informed that the case against the detained accused is in process at Maheshpur police station and the process of depositing the gold bars at Jhenaidah treasury office is under process.
