Due to a lack of renovation, the bridge built on the Bholardon canal near the Gariabunia market of Betagi upazila of Barguna has become impassable. Locals including students of some educational institutions are suffering due to this. Sometimes accidents happen. Locals demand immediate renovation of the bridge or construction of a new bridge.

According to the sources of the Upazila Engineer's office, the iron bridge was built on the initiative of the Local Government Engineering Directorate (LGED) over the Bholardon Canal in the Gariabunia Bazar area of Bibichini Union. The bridge built in 2001 is 30 meters long and 3 meters wide. Almost two years of construction have passed but no renovation has been done.

It has been seen on the ground that the locals have somehow made it suitable for movement. The collapsed part of the bridge has been fenced off to prevent accidents. The other part has wooden planks. Motorcycles, autorickshaws, and pedestrians are constantly risking their lives.

Meanwhile, Nawab Hossain Nayan, chairman of the local Bibichini Union Parishad, said that no progress has been made in the renovation of the bridge.

He said, our long-standing demand is for quick renovation of the bridge. Despite informing the concerned department, the initiative for reform is not being taken. The bridge should be urgently renovated or rebuilt.

In this regard, Betagi upazila engineer Raisul Islam said that a proposal to build this important bridge has been sent under the 100-meter bridge construction project to reduce the suffering of the locals. Once the project is allotted, the work will be started soon after the process.
