As there is no connecting road, the local people have to constantly cross over the dangerous bridge built over the dead canal on the Ranadia road adjacent to Bangladesh Hut in Manikganj Sadar Upazila using bamboo poles with deadly risk. The people of local 10-12 villages are facing extreme suffering. Locals complain that the bridge has been constructed by contractor JJ Engineering and Construction with low-quality construction materials. Due to this, the bridge is in a dangerous condition as it sinks two feet during construction.
As a result, pedestrians are forced to cross over the bridge using bamboo poles. According to the office of the upazila project implementation officer, Sadar upazila's Garhpara 60,000 people from 10-12 villages of the union were suffering for a long time. Thinking about the suffering, a 60-foot-long bridge was constructed at a cost of Tk 54 lakh 4 thousand 650 under the bridge construction project of the Department of Disaster Management on the canal on Bangladesh Hut Ranadia road in the financial year 2016-17. However, as there is no 40-foot connecting road on the east side of the bridge, the bridge is not working.
Anshar Ali, head teacher of Garhpara Multipurpose Higher Secondary School, said, "Students come to my school after crossing the bridge with bamboo poles. In this regard, Anisur Rahman, a prominent businessman of Bangladesh Hut, said that the students have to suffer while traveling. The locals go through extreme pain and suffering to take pregnant women or sick patients to the hospital. They demanded immediate construction of the bridge for the sake of thousands of people.
In this regard, Upazila Project Implementation Officer (PIO) Mo Ali Noor said, I joined a few days ago. I visited the bridge. Necessary measures will be taken by contacting the higher authorities.
