Police on strict stance to tackle post polls situation

Due to the neutral stance and strong role of the Satkhira District Police, the first and second phase of the 6th Upazila Parishad election was held in a peaceful environment without any untoward incident.

In the first phase, elections were held in Shyamnagar and Kaliganj upazilas of Satkhira on May 8. In the second phase, elections were held on May 21 in Tala, Asashuni and Debhata upazilas. The 12th national parliament election was held on January 7 of this year. The election in four parliamentary constituencies of Satkhira district was conducted in a fair and peaceful environment. Government officers and employees engaged in the election are appreciated for their steadfast role in maintaining the neutrality of the law and order forces. Especially the uncompromising activities of the new Superintendent of Police Matiur Rahman Siddiqui, who has just joined the district.

It was known that in Shyamnagar and Kaliganj upazilas, not a single untoward incident occurred during and after the election. On the day of polling, the Superintendent of Police himself visits each center on the ground and personally supervises every policeman from arranging food to everything. As a result, it has been possible to present an election that has been highly appreciated.

Shyamnagar Upazila Chairman Saiduzzaman Sayed said that this year's upazila elections were completed very peacefully. No accident occurred. Voters were able to come to vote and exercise their franchise. I express my thanks and special gratitude to the district police for creating this beautiful environment.

Sardar Moshiur Rahman, the defeated candidate in the Tala upazila election, said that due to the efficient leadership of the police, this year's election was free and fair. But there has been some post-election violence.

He said, my workers are constantly attacking, threatening and torturing supporters. 30 houses of people are still homeless in Madra of Magura Union as well as my member was attacked in Islamkati Union. Also, the tea shopkeepers have not yet opened their shops in Mia Masjid area. He requested the administration's intervention in these matters. He also thanked the Superintendent of Police for conducting the election smoothly.
