Potato cultivation rise in Chougachha

The potato cultivation has increased in comparision with previous years in Chougachha of Jashore. As a result, farmers are passing busy time in potato fields.

It was known that Chougachha upazila of Jashore district is the largest potato producing area in the country. Farmers across the horizon are now busy tending to potato fields. Thousands of workers are working in the field in this huge agricultural program across the upazila. Women are seen also busy planting potato fields.

Rashedul Islam, information officer of the Upazila Agriculture Office, said potato has been cultivated on 380 hectares of land in the upazila this season. The production target has been set at about 22 thousand 800 metric tons. The potato cultivation is more in Dhuliani, Chougachha, Narayanpur, Hakimpur, Patibila, Jagadishpur, Fulsara Swarupdaha unions and municipal areas of the upazila.

Visiting the fields of different areas of the upazila, it was known that the farmers are busy cultivating potatoes in full swing in the land. They are working on irrigation, fertilising, spraying and standing in the potato fields. Many farmers started cultivating potatoes in advance to capture the market. However, the main season to plant potatoes is from November 1 to November 20. Potato harvesting will start from the first week of March. After planting potatoes, it takes three months to become full. The women of the house are also helping the farmers in potato cultivation.
