A human chain program was held in Barishal, demanding the nationalization of education, and the 100 percent full festival allowance bonus for private teachers before the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr. At the same time, a memorandum was given to the Prime Minister and Education Minister through the Deputy Commissioner.
The human chain rally program was held at Pran Kendra Sadar Road by the Federation of Barisal Divisional Struggle Committee yesterday at 10:30 am. Barishal Divisional Coordinator Prof. Mohsin-ul-Islam Habul presided over the human chain. Teachers and staff leaders said that 98 percent of the education system of Bangladesh is managed by private teachers and staff. These 5 lakh teachers and staff members who play a role in the development of human resources of the country are being given only of 25 percent festive bonus, house rent of Tk 1000, and medical allowance of Tk 500.
They said that it has become impossible to maintain the minimum standard of living for a teacher. It is impossible to build a smart Bangladesh without the development of human resources. Even after 53 years of independence, it is very difficult for teachers to accept such deprivation.
Convener Md Rezaul Karim, Principal AKM Mizanur Rahman, Professor Jalilur Rahman, Principal Pranab Kumar Bepari, Principal Gauranga Chandra Kunda, Professor Md Hanif and Convener Zia Shahin also spoke. After the human chain, the federation leaders took out a protest march and went to the District Commissioner's office to hand over the memorandum to the Prime Minister and the Education Minister.
