Protest rally held at Godagari

Residents of Rajshahi protested against the illegal occupation of property and the eviction of shops, houses and mosques for the construction of surface water treatment plant in Rajshahi Wasa for the supply of pure water to Godagari in Rajshahi.

Godagari Upazila Sadar Golchattar organized by Citizen Interest-Protection Committee Godagari yesterday.

Advocate Salahuddin Biswas, president of Citizen Interest-Protection Committee, spoke as the chief guest at the protest rally under the chairmanship of Rafiqul Islam Bablu. Special guests were Rajshahi District Jamaat (West) Assistant Secretary Dr Muhammad Obaidullah, Godagari Municipal Jubodal convener Mahbubur Rahman Biplab, Citizen Interest-Protection Committee General Secretary SM Barjahan Ali Pintu, former councilor Alam Ali and businessman Shafiullah Haider and others.

In the protest rally, the speakers said, "The construction of above ground water treatment plant in Rajshahi Wasa, if there is any damage to people's lives or property, there is a demand to be disclosed to the public." The affected people should be compensated through investigation through various departments of the government, including the chief advisor of the interim government. And if any kind of provocation is done, then the common people will go to a larger movement. Note that the cost of the project undertaken by Rajshahi WASA has been estimated at Tk 4,622,220,000. The implementation time of the project is four years.
