  • Fish production is 5 thousand 414 tons this year
  • Revenue collection Tk 11 crore 13 lakh 43 thousand

5 thousand 414 tons of fish have been extracted from Kaptai Lake in Rangamati this year. The revenue from this has been Tk 11 crore 13 lakh 43 thousand. This is the record revenue income from fishing in Kaptai Lake. Bangladesh Fisheries Development Corporation (BFDC) has said that this success has come due to multifaceted measures including discipline in fish collection and marketing in the lake, and collection of 100 percent duty.

It is known that this year, to increase the natural reproduction of fish in the lake and the abundance of carp fish, fishing and marketing have been banned from April 20 to May 1. It was extended twice till August 31 without increasing the water in the lake. Fishing in the lake starts from midnight on September 1. Freshwater fish harvested from the lake include Kachki, Chapila, and Rui. These fish are being sent to different parts of the country including Chittagong, and Dhaka to satisfy the local demand. This year, various programs including training of employees, traders, laborers, and fishermen were taken to increase fish production and restore order in the lake. Various initiatives have been taken including the introduction of a dress code for staff and a tracking device system for patrol teams.

According to the statistics of the Kaptai Lake Fisheries Development and Marketing Centre, 4 thousand 133 tonnes of fish arrived at the four fish landing ghats of Rangamati Sadar, Kaptai, Marishya and Mahalachari in the financial year 2022-23. The revenue from this was Tk 8 crore 62 lakh 37 thousand. Tk 7 crore 48 lakh 28 thousand from 4 thousand 84 tons of fish in 2021-22 financial year, Tk 7 crore 28 lakh 64 thousand from 3 thousand 928 tons in 2020-21 financial year revenue had collected.

Commander Ashraful Alam Bhuiyan, manager of the Kaptai Lake Fisheries Development and Marketing Centre, said the production and collection of fish in the lake was low last year. For this reason, various programs are taken including encouraging everyone related to the lake and bringing them to order. Now there is trust between fishermen and businessmen. So success comes from.
