The work of the second phase of Dhaka-Jashore rail line on Bhanga-Narail-Jashore section under the Padma Bridge Rail Link Project is progressing fast. About 84 percent of the work has already been completed. If everything is okay, the rest of the work will be completed and the railway will run on this route in June next year.
Once the project is implemented, this railway line will play a very important role in transporting goods and transportation of people in the southwestern region of the country including the country's largest land port Benapole, commercial city Noapara and industrial area Khulna. Transportation of goods will be much more affordable, it will take less time. As a result, the socio-economic situation of this area will change.
It was known that the construction of 162.5 kilometers of railway line from Dhaka to Jashore is going on. The construction work of the second phase of the Padma Bridge Rail Link Project is progressing fast under the supervision of the army. China Railway Engineering Company (CRC), a contractor appointed by Bangladesh Railway, is constructing the railway line. Members of the Engineering Corps (officers and employees) under the Construction, Supervision, Consultant (CSC) run by Bangladesh Army and experienced local and foreign consultants are working relentlessly as consultants for the project.
Under this project, the rail service from Dhaka to Bhanga has already been started after completing the first phase work. In the second phase, the rail line will connect with Padma Billa Junction in Jashore through Kashiani upazila of Gopalganj, Lohagara and Sadar upazilas of Narail. The construction of 66 big bridges and 244 small bridges on the broad gauge railway line is nearing completion. There will be 30 level crossing gates. This railway line will pass through 9 districts.
The rail line will connect from Dhaka to Rupdia in Jashore via Bhanga, Nagarkanda, Muksudpur, Maheshpur, Kashiani, Lohagara, Narail and Jamdia via Padma Bridge. Of these, Bhanga, Kashiani, Padmabila and Singia railway junctions of Jashore will be built. The railway stations will be set up at Narandia in Lohagara municipality and Durgapur in Narail municipality. The total cost of setting up a 162.5 km rail line from Dhaka to Singia in Jashore has been fixed at Tk 39,246.80 crore. The distance of Lohagara railway station from Dhaka is 123 kilometers and Narail railway station is 138 kilometers.
Site Clearance Officer of Bhanga-Jessore section of Padma Bridge Rail Link Project Lt Col Sohel said 84 percent work of the second phase of the project has already been completed. It will be possible to complete the project within the stipulated time and hand it over in June 2024.
